Bangladesh Awami League finally nominated incumbent Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC) mayor Atiqul Islam as mayoral candidate for DNCC and Barrister Sheikh Fazle Noor Taposh for Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC) elections.
Awami League general secretary Obaidul Quader formally announced the names of mayoral candidates on Sunday (Dec 29) at Awami League president’s political office.
The decision was taken during a meeting of Awami League’s local government nomination board with the party’s president and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina in the chair earlier on Saturday night, local media reported.
The vote will be held on Jan 30 while the deadline to submit nomination is Dec 31.
