The by-poll to Chattogram-8 constituency will be held on Jan 13. Bangladesh Election Commission Senior Secretary Md Alamgir on Sunday (Dec 1) announced the election schedule at a press conference at Nirbachan Bhaban’s media room in the city, local media reported.
As per the schedule, the last date of submission of nomination papers is Dec 12 and the scrutiny of nomination papers will be held on Dec 15. The deadline for withdrawal of candidature is Dec 22.
The Election Commission will use Electronic Voting Machine (EVM) in all centres, he said.
The Jatiyo Sangsad seat fell vacant after the death of Mainuddin Khan Badal, the executive president of a faction of Jatiyo Samajtantrik Dal (Jasad).
Badal passed away at a hospital in Bengaluru in India on Nov 7 at the age of 67.
