President Hamid departs for Nepal

President Md. Abdul Hamid left Dhaka today for Kathmandu on a four-day official visit at the invitation of his Nepalese counterpart Bidhya Devi Bhandari. A flight of Biman Bangladesh Airlines carrying the president and his entourage members took off from Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport in Dhaka for Nepal at about 12 p.m.

Liberation War Affairs Minister A K M Mozammel Haque, Road Transport and Bridges Minister Obaidul Quader, State Minister for Civil Aviation and Tourism Md Mahbub Ali, dean of the diplomatic corps, cabinet secretary, chiefs of the three services, senior secretary of public safety division of the Home Ministry, inspector general of police (IGP) and representative on behalf of Nepalese ambassador in Dhaka, among others, saw him off at the airport.

President’s spouse Rashida Khanam, his son Rejwan Ahammad Taufiq, MP, Whip Atiur Rahman Atik, ABM Fazle Karim Chowdhury, MP, Foreign Secretary Md. Shahidul Haque and concerned officials of Bangabhaban and foreign ministry are accompanying him during the tour, local media reported.

The flight is scheduled to land at Tribhuvan International Airport in Kathmandu, Nepal. Nepalese President Bidhya Devi Bhandari and Ambassador of Bangladesh to Nepal Mashfee Binte Shams will receive President Abdul Hamid at the airport. Later a ceremonial motorcade will escort the president to Marriott Kathmandu where he will be staying during the tour.

During his stay in Nepal, the Bangladesh head of state will have a meeting with his Nepalese counterpart. Nepalese President will host a banquet in honour of her Bangladesh counterpart and his delegation.

The Nepalese Vice-President, Prime Minister, Chairperson of the National Assembly, and Minister for Foreign Affairs will also call on President Hamid during his visit. Other Nepalese political leaders will also have meetings with Hamid.

Hamid will visit Pokhara city and the historical, archaeological and cultural sites in the Kathmandu Valley, the President’s press secretary said.

The President is scheduled to return home on Friday (Nov 15).
