Maritime ports asked to hoist signal 2 for storm ‘Bulbul’

The maritime ports of Chattogram, Cox’s Bazar, Mongla and Payra have been advised to keep hoisting distant warning signal number two as the deep depression over East-central Bay and adjoining area moved northwards, intensified into a Cyclonic storm “Bulbul”.

“The cyclonic storm “Bulbul” over east-central Bay and adjoining area moved slightly north-northwestwards further over the same area,” said a special weather bulletin of the Bangladesh Meteorological Department in Dhaka today, local media reported.

It was centred at 9 a.m. today about 900km south-southwest of Chattogram port, 830km south-southwest of Cox’s Bazar port, 875km south of Mongla port and 835km south of Payra port. It is likely to intensify further and move in a north-northwesterly direction, the bulletin added.

Maximum sustained wind speed within 54kms of the cyclone centre is about 62 kph rising to 88 kph in gusts or squalls, it said, adding that Sea will remain very rough near the cyclone centre.

All fishing boats and trawlers over north bay and deep sea have been advised to keep close to the coast and proceed with caution so that they can take shelter within a short notice. 

They are also advised not to venture into the deep sea.
