PM calls on President Hamid at Bangabhaban

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina made a courtesy call on President Md. Abdul Hamid at Bangabhaban on Wednesday (Oct 16) evening.

“The Prime Minister discussed different state-level issues, specially her recent visits to the USA and India, with the President”, local media reported citing President’s press secretary M Joynal Abedin.

The head of the government apprised the President of the outcome of her recent US-India visits and also handed over two separate reports in this connection to him, he said.

The PM paid a four-day visit to India from Oct 3-6 to attend the India economic Summit of the World Economic Forum and held bilateral talks with her Indian counterpart Narendra Modi.

Earlier, she also paid an eight-day official visit from Sep 22-29 to New York, USA to attend the 74th Session of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA).

President Hamid also congratulated the prime minister for getting three prestigious awards during her US-India visits, the press secretary added.

During the UNGA in New York, PM Sheikh Hasina received two international awards for successful immunisation programmes and skills development for the youth in Bangladesh.

The Global Alliance for Vaccination and Immunisation awarded her as ‘Vaccine Hero’ for the outstanding success of Bangladesh in immunisation. She was also honoured with ‘Champion of skill development for youth’ award.

Later, the Bangladesh premier received ‘Tagore Peace Award 2018’ in New Delhi in recognition of her contribution to maintaining regional peace and prosperity.

The Asiatic Society, Kolkata, conferred the award on her at a function at Taj Mahal Hotel there.

The press secretary said during the meeting, the President and PM enquired each other about their health.

The PM reached the Bangabhaban at 7 p.m. On her arrival, the Prime Minister was received by President Abdul Hamid and his spouse Rashida Khanam with a bouquet. The PM also presented a bouquet to the head of the state.
