Rumana ruled out of World T20 qualifiers

Rumana ruled out of World T20 qualifiers

Bangladesh national women’s team suffered a massive blow ahead of their ICC women’s World Twenty20 qualifier in Scotland as star all-rounder Rumana Ahmed was ruled out of the competition with an elbow injury.

Rumana, the one-day international skipper of Bangladesh team, had been suffering from the elbow injury since last few months and she aggravated the problem during the last Dhaka Women’s Premier Division Cricket League earlier this year.

BCB and the women’s cricket wing development manager Nazmul Abedin Fahim informed media on Friday (Aug 9) that it might take four to five weeks for her to completely recover from the injury.

The national women’s team will depart for Netherlands on Aug 15 to take part in a week-long conditioning camp before they arrive in Scotland to play the World Twenty20 Qualifier, scheduled to start from Aug 31.

Bangladesh will begin their campaign against Papua New Guinea in their first Group A match on the opening day before they face USA and Scotland respectively on Sep 1 and 3 respectively.

The top two teams from the eight-team tournament will qualify for the 2020 ICC women’s T20 World Cup in Australia.

Both the semi-finals will take place on Sep 5 while the final of the competition will be held on Sep 7.

Group B comprises with Ireland, Thailand, Namibia and Netherlands.
