PM joins post-budget dinner

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina on Sunday (Jun 30) joined a post-budget dinner hosted by Finance Minister A H M Mustafa Kamal at Bangabandhu International Conference Centre in Dhaka. On her arrival at the venue at around 8:05 p.m., the premier went round different tables set for the guests and exchanged pleasantries with them.

Speaker Dr Shirin Sharmin Chaudhury, Chief Justice Syed Mahmud Hossain, National Professor Dr Rafiqul Islam, Law Minister Anisul Haque, Planning Minister MA Mannan, Foreign Minister Dr AK Abdul Momen, Agriculture Minister Dr Abdur Razzaque, Information Minister Dr Hasan Mahmud, PM’s Advisers HT Imam and Dr Moshiur Rahman, were present, among others, on the dais along with the PM.

Besides, other ministers, PM’s advisers, state ministers, chief whip, whips, parliament members, chiefs of the three services, attorney general, judges of the Supreme Court, the inspector general of police, gallantry award-recipient freedom fighters, educationists, editors, senior journalists, business leaders and leaders of different professional bodies and high civil and military officials attended the dinner, local media reported.

The Jatiyo Sangsad on Sunday (Jun 30) passed the Tk 5,23,190 crore national budget for the fiscal year 2019-20, themed as ‘Bangladesh on a Pathway to Prosperity: Time is Ours, Time for Bangladesh’.

Finance Minister A H M Mustafa Kamal moved the Appropriations Bill, 2019 seeking a budgetary allocation of Tk 6,42,478.27 crore which was passed by voice vote.

On Jun 13, he unveiled the largest-ever national budget with a focus on developing communications infrastructure, and human resources and achieving the 8.2 percent GDP growth.
