Actress Maya Ghosh passes away

Freedom Fighter, actress Maya Ghosh passed away on Sunday (May 19), while undergoing treatment at a private hospital in Jashore, local media reported.

Dipok Ghosh, son of Maya Ghosh, said she was sick for long time, and first diagnosed with cancer in 2000, and was taken to Kolkata’s Saroj Gupta Cancer Hospital in 2001. Her health condition improved in 2009.

She went under treatment for complexities with kidney, liver and knee and diagnosed with cancer again in 2018. She was taken to Kolkata again in January this year.

Her condition kept deteriorating and her family brought her back to Jashore on Apr 15. She was admitted to Queen's Hospital in Jashore.

Maya Ghosh was born on Dec 31, 1949 at Protapkati village under Monirampur upazila in Jashore.

She and her husband Dilip Ghosh started to live in Dhaka permanently from 1984.

Maya Ghosh first appeared in Bengali cinema “Patal Bijoy” in 1981. She had an influential presence in theatre, television and films. Her last screen presence was in popular 2016 ATN Bangla daily soap named “DB.”
