Biman’s aircraft skids off Yangon runway, 19 injured

A Biman Bangladesh Airlines Dash-8 aircraft skidded off runway at Yangon international airport amid rough weather, wounding at least 19 out of 33 passengers and crews.

“There were 29 Passengers and four crews on board. All are safe, but 18 passengers and one infant received injuries and have been sent to hospital,” Biman’s Spokesperson Shakil Meraj told newsmen in Dhaka, local media reported.

He said flight BG-060 left Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport at 3:45 p.m. from Dhaka to Yangon and suffered an overrun incident on landing at approximately 6:22 p.m. local time there on Wednesday (May 8).

Meraj, General Manager (PR) of the national flag carrier, said Biman sent a special flight Wednesday night to bring back passengers and crew from Yangon.

“The special flight BG-1060 departed at 11:25 p.m. to Yangon,” he added.

Biman, he said, is providing assistance to the passengers in Yangon.
