The holy Lailatul Barat, the night of fortune, will be observed throughout the country on the night of April 21 (Sunday) as the Shaban moon of Hijri 1440 was not sighted in Bangladesh sky on Saturday (Apr 6) night.

The National Moon Sighting Committee took the decision at a meeting held at the Islamic Foundation office at Baitul Mukarram in the evening with State Minister for Religious Affairs Sheikh Mohammad Abdullah in the chair, local media reported.

Lailatul Barat is observed on the 14th night of Shaban month on the lunar Islamic calendar.

According to the Muslim belief, Lailatul Barat is the night when The Almighty Allah arranges the affairs of the following year. On Lailatul Barat, Allah writes the destinies of all his creations for the coming year by taking into account their past deeds.

On this night, Muslim devotees will offer special prayers, recite from the Holy Quran, hold milad, zikr and other religious.
