Shakib to miss third NZ Test too

Shakib to miss third NZ Test too

Bangladesh Cricket Board on Monday (Mar 11) confirmed that the Tigers' Test and Twenty20 skipper Shakib Al Hasan will also miss the third Test against New Zealand as he was yet to completely recover from his finger injury, reports said.

The third and final Test between the two countries will start on Mar 16 at the Hagley Oval in Christchurch.

‘‘As per as the medical reports we have received, he (Shakib) can’t make it till Mar 20,’’ BCB cricket operations committee chairman Akram Khan told reporters in Mirpur.

‘‘He will start his training afterwards. We will assess his improvement after that. So, he has no chance to go to New Zealand,’’ he added.

Shakib sustained an injury on his ring finger during the final of the Bangladesh Premier League on Feb 8 and was ruled out from the three-match one-day international series and first two of the three-match Test series against New Zealand.

The BCB physicians initially believed that he would need three-week time to recover completely and he might possibly join the Tigers for the third and final Test in Christchurch.

Shakib started some light training in Mirpur from last week.

Team Bangladesh conceded heavy losses in Shakib’s absence as they were clean-swept in the preceding three-match ODI series and lost the first Test by an innings and 52 runs in Hamilton.

The Tigers also faced another humiliating defeat in the second Test as they needed some kind of miracle to save the Wellington Test on Tuesday.
