Quader’s physical state improving steadily

The physical state of ailing Road Transport and Bridges Minister Obaidul Quader, who is undergoing treatment at a Singapore hospital, is improving steadily, doctors briefed on Wednesday (Mar 7).

“The mechanical device IABP has been removed from Quader’s heart as his heart is working naturally without artificial support,” BSMMU director Prof Abu Naser Rizvi briefed today at the hospital lobby quoting cardiologist Dr Philip Koh, head of the five-member medical board formed for Quader’s treatment.

Intra-aortic balloon pump (IABP) is a mechanical device that increases myocardial oxygen perfusion and indirectly increases cardiac output through after load reduction.

“His kidneys are now at better state than earlier. Quantity of sleeping pills has also been cut down. He is responding to physicians’ calls,” said a press release of the Road Transport and Bridges Ministry issued in Dhaka today after the briefing of Rizvi at Mount Elizabeth Hospital where Quader, also Awami League general secretary is being treated.

Earlier, Dr Philip Koh briefed about the improvement of Quader’s physical condition, local media reported.

An air ambulance of Mount Elizabeth Hospital flew Quader to Singapore on Mar 4 for better treatment as advised by doctors including famous Indian cardiologist Dr Devi Shetty as he was being treated at Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University (BSMMU) hospital with critical cardiovascular ailments.

His wife Isratunnesa Quader is also accompanying Quader at Mount Elizabeth Hospital in Singapore.

Among others, lawmaker Sheikh Helal Uddin, Bangladesh High Commissioner to Singapore Mostafizur Rahman and Dr Rizvi were present at the briefing.
