Ekushey Granthomela extended by two days

Amar Ekushey Granthomela (Book Fair) 2019 has been extended by two days. The book fair’s time has been extended by two more days at the order of the Prime Minister, said Faisal Hasan, Senior Information officer at the Cultural Affairs Ministry, local media reported.

The fair will end on Saturday (Mar 2). It’ll remain open from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. on those days, Bangla Academy said in a statement.

Traditionally, the month-long fair began on Feb 1, and was scheduled to end on Feb 28.

Book lovers thronged the fair on Thursday after it opened at 3 p.m. Altogether, 4,685 books have been published during the fair.

The announcement of the fair’s extension came shortly after a concluding ceremony was held.

Daily discussion events were held at the book fair on various themes, and personalities on the main stage of the Academy premises.

At the closing ceremony, Bangla Academy also handed over awards to winners of its ‘Gunijon Shahityo Puroshkar’ chosen from among the publishing houses that participated in the fair.

'Poet Jasim Uddin Literature Award 2019' was awarded to poet Nirmalendu Goon.

‘Kothaprokash’ received the ‘Chittaranjan Saha Sriti Puroshkar 2019’. 

‘Munier Chowdhury Sriti Puroshkar 2019’ was given for the publication of aesthetically rich and standard content in books published in 2018. The awards was received by Prothoma publication for ‘Bidrohi Ronoklanto’ by Golam Murshid, Journeyman Books publication for ‘Monorothe Shilper Pothe’ by Moinuddin Khaled, and Chandrabati Academy for ‘Muthor Vetor Rod’ by Maruful Islam.

The ‘Rokonuzzaman Khan Dadabhai Sriti Puroshkar’ was awarded to the Panjaree Publication for publishing excellent books for kids. 

‘Qayyum Chowdhury Sriti Puroshkar’ was given to three publications – Modhdhoma (Single unit), Batighar (Multi-unit), and Panjaree Publication (Pavilion) for best interior design which is aesthetically rich.
