Ban on motorcycle ply from Tuesday night

Dhaka Metropolitan Police slapped a ban on motorcycle movement from midnight of Feb 26 (Tuesday) to Mar 1 for the Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC) election. All vehicles in the election areas will be shut from Feb 27-28, local media reported citing a letter from Bangladesh Election Commission.

The vehicles for which bans will be effected: auto-rickshaws, easy-bikes, cars, microbuses, buses, trucks, and all other locally operated motor run vehicles. The ban will not applicable to candidates, their agents, or election observers with accredited ID cards, if they have permission from the returning officers.

Meanwhile, inter-district buses have been asked to use main roads during in and out of the city.

The by-elections to the DNCC in the mayoral post will be held on Feb 28. Besides, general elections in 18 newly formed wards in DNCC and Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC) each will be held on the same day.
