Rashid Suhrawardy passes away in London

Rashid Suhrawardy, the only son of the legendary political leader and former Prime Minister of erstwhile Pakistan Huseyn Shaheed Suhrawardy, died at his London residence on Feb 7.

According to the police information, the cause of his death has not yet been known officially as he was found dead at his residence, Press Minister Ashequn Nabi Chowdhury of Bangladesh High Commission (London) informed in a release on Saturday (Feb 9).

The Bangladesh High Commission conveyed deep condolence to the bereaved family members and friends of late Rashid Suhrawardy, the release added.

His next of kin, family members and friends have been informed about his death.

The High Commission will be updating all concerned about his burial arrangement, the release added. The mortal remains of late Rashid Suhrawardy are currently in a mortuary under custody of local authority.

Late Huseyn Shaheed Suhrawardy, the father of the deceased, was a Bengali politician and a lawyer who served as the fifth Prime Minister of Pakistan, appointed in this capacity from Awami League on Sep 12 in 1956 until resigning on Oct 17 in 1957.

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina expressed deep shock and sorrow at the death of Rashid Suhrawardy. In a condolence message, the prime minister prayed for eternal peace of the departed soul and conveyed profound sympathy to the bereaved family.

Speaker Shirin Sharmin Chaudhury also mourned the death of Rashid Suhrawardy and prayed for the eternal peace of the departed soul, local media reports said.
