Bangladesh Nationalist Party - BNP has announced that they will hold a public rally at Suhrawardy Udyan in the capital on Friday (Feb 8). Ruhul Kabir Rizvi, General Secretary of BNP, made the announcement while speaking at a press briefing at the party’s Naya Paltan headquarters recently, local media reports said.
Rizvi said they had already sought permission from the authorities concerned — Suhrawardy Udyan authorities and Dhaka Metropolitan Police — for holding the programme.
The senior BNP leader stated that the rally will be held to demand the immediate release of BNP Chairperson Begum Khaleda Zia, and other arrested party leaders and activists.
Khaleda has been in prison since February last year. She has been sentenced in the Zia Orphanage and Zia Charitable Trust corruption cases. She is serving the sentences at the old central jail on Nazimuddin Road in Dhaka.
