Unofficial results from 123 voting centres shows Younus bagged 121,163 votes while his nearest rival candidate Jatiyo Party’s Dilara Khandoker got 24,385 votes.
Bangladesh Awami League nominated candidate Younus Ali Sarker has been elected in the general election of Gaibandha-3 (Sadullahpur-Palashbari) seat by defeating his nearest candidate Dilara Khandoker. Younus Ali Sarker bagged 1,21,163 votes and his nearest rival candidate Jatiyo Party (Ershad) Dilara Khandoker got 24,385 votes.
Returning Officer Md Abdul Matin declared the result on Sunday (Jan 27) night, local media reports said.
The polls to the seat had been deferred after the death of the Jatiyo Oikyofront candidate TIM Fazle Rabbi, a former leader of the Jatiyo Party, 10 days before the Dec 30 general elections.
