Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina on Wednesday (Jan 9) paid homage to Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman here marking the installation of her government for the third consecutive term. The PM paid tributes to Bangabandhu by placing wreaths at his graveyard at Tungipara in the afternoon.

After laying the wreaths, Sheikh Hasina stood there in solemn silence for some time as a mark of profound respect to Bangabandhu, the architect of independence. A smartly turned out contingent drawn from the three forces gave a guard of honour to the PM, while the bugle played the last post. Bangabandhu's younger daughter Sheikh Rehana was also present, local media reports said.

The PM offered fateha and joined a special munajat seeking eternal peace of Bangabandhu and other martyrs of the Aug 15 carnage. Later, accompanied by her cabinet colleagues and senior Awami League leaders, Hasina placed another wreath at Bangabandhu's shrine.

She also joined a milad and doa mahfil held on the Bangabandhu's Mausoleum premises.

Advisers to the PM, Bangladesh Awami League parliament members and central leaders, cabinet secretary, secretaries concerned to the prime minister as well as senior civil and military officials were also present on the occasion.
