Jatiyo Party chairman HM Ershad on Sunday (Jan 6) took oath as the opposition leader. Speaker Dr. Shirin Sharmin Chaudhury administered his oath in the noon at the parliament, local media reports said.
Ershad, who has been elected lawmaker from Rangpur-3 constituency in the Dec 30 election, later took over his office and briefed journalists there.
On Friday, Jatiyo Party co-chairman GM Quader at a press conference said they will play the role of the main opposition for the smooth functioning of parliament while their party chairman HM Ershad will act as the Leader of the Opposition.
Jatiyo Party, which joined the election as the key partner of the Bangladesh Awami League-led Grand Alliance, bagged 22 seats in the election.
