'Technocrat ministers not in polls-time govt'

Commerce Minister Tofail Ahmed said four technocrat ministers will not be a part of the polls-time government as they have submitted resignation letters and the Prime Minister will accept it any time.

Minister Tofail made the remarks to reporters after a meeting with Norwegian ambassador to Dhaka Sidsel Bleken in secretariat on Tuesday (Nov 13), local media reports said.

Earlier on Nov 6, four technocrat ministers have submitted resignation letter upon Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina’s order. The letters are pending for approval but the ministers were directed to continue their respective ministerial activities till further order.

Tofail said, “We are now serving as the polls-time government. We are just working routine work and not making any policy decision.”

He said it is a very good thing that all parties are about to participate in the upcoming general election. Bangladesh is going to hold a free, fair and neutral election. We have held dialogue with 70 parties and the Election Commission has made realistic decision in rescheduling the Voting Day on Dec 30.
