Dhaka Lit Fest 2018 begins Thursday

The eighth edition of Dhaka Lit Fest will be held at Bangla Academy from Nov 8 to 10, local media reports said.

This year's line-up features Pulitzer Prize-winning author Adam Johnson, literary icon Shirshendu Mukhopadhyay, winner of the Commonwealth Writers' Prize Mohammed Hanif, award-winning actor Manisha Koirala, Oscar-winning actor Tilda Swinton, award-winning actor and director Nandita Das, winner of the Ondaatje Prize Philip Hensher, winner of the Orwell and Ondaatje prizes James Meek, Syed Manzoorul Islam, Imdadul Haq Milon, Kaiser Haq and Selina Hossain, among others.

Over 200 speakers, performers and thinkers, representing 15 countries will take part in the three-day event with over 90 sessions, all of which are free and open to all.

One of the special highlights of this year will be Nandita Das, talking about her film Manto, which will be premiered at the festival, and an appearance by Shirshendu Mukhopadhyay.

The festival will also host the Cambridge Short Story Prize, and the Gemcon Literary Awards.

This was announced at a press conference held at Shaheed Munier Chowdhury Auditorium of main building of Bangla Academy on Monday (Nov 5) where directors Sadaf Saaz, Ahsan Akbar and K Anis Ahmed, among others, spoke.

The organizers also mentioned that Dhaka Lit Fest is supported by the Ministry of Cultural Affairs and hosted by Bangla Academy.
