Cabinet approves scrapping quota in top govt. jobs

Cabinet approves scrapping quota in top govt. jobs

The cabinet has approved scrapping quota provision in first and second class government jobs following mass protests from jobseekers in civil service. Cabinet Secretary M Shafiul Alam made the announcement after the meeting, which was held with Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina at its lead, local media reports said.

However, the quota will remain for the class third and fourth class employees. A formal notice will follow in two to three days.

The government’s move to scrap quota in the top class jobs comes amid a brewing discontent among the job seekers – both in favour and against quota.
