The appellate division of the Supreme Court rejected petition of the state seeking cancellation bail of Bangladesh Nationalist Party chief Begum Khaleda Zia in two cases filed against her on defamation charges.
An appellate division bench comprised of three justices and headed by Chief Justice Syed Mahmud Hossain passed the order Monday (Oct 1), local media reported.
Lawyers said the bail granted to Khaleda in the two cases is now upheld.
Attorney General Mahbubey Alam moved for the state while senior lawyer AJ Mohammad Ali moved for Khaleda, at the courtroom.
Earlier, the High Court granted Khaleda six-month bail on Aug 13 in a case filed in Narail and on Aug 14 in a case filed in Dhaka.
Afterwards, the state filed petition seeking cancellation the bail granted to her.
