Country’s largest Eid congregation held in Sholakia

The largest Eid-ul-Fitr Jamaat (congregation) of the country was held on the historic Sholakia Eidgah Maidan this morning with participation of over thousands of devotees from home and abroad amid stringent security measures.

Bangladesh’s largest Eid congregation was held in historic Sholakia Eidgah in Kishoreganj amid unprecedented security. The Eid prayers, led by Maulana Farid Uddin Masud, began at 10:00 a.m on Saturday (Jun 16) with the participation of over thousands of devotees from different parts of the country, local media reports said.

Devotees started coming to the ground from early morning on the day. They participated in the 191th prayers of Eid-ul-Fitr.

Meanwhile, additional law enforces were deployed to ensure security to the devotees. Close-circuit cameras and metal detectors were used at the entrances of the prayer ground.

Two special trains ran between Bhairab-Kishoreganj and Mymensingh-Kishoreganj to facilitate the Muslims joining the country’s largest Eid congregation.

According to sources, the first Eid jamat was held in 1828 in Sholakia. Maulana Sayeed Ahmed of Bowlai Shaheb Bari in Kishoreganj was the first Imam to conduct the Eid jamaat attended by about 125,000 devotees.
