Mayoral elections in the cities of Rajshahi, Sylhet and Barisal would be held on Jul 30, the Election Commission announced Tuesday (May 29). According to the schedule announced, the last date for filing nomination is Jun 28 and withdrawing Jul 9. The nomination papers would be scrutinized on Jul 1 and 2.
Chief Election Commissioner Khan M Nurul Huda declared the polls schedules in Dhaka, local media reports said.
The tenures of three city corporations - Rajshahi, Sylhet and Barisal - will expire by this October. The tenure of Rajshahi City Corporation will expire on Oct 5, and Sylhet on Oct 8, and Barisal on Oct 23.
The electoral law stipulates that the elections to the city corporations shall be held within six months before the expiry of the local body.
