The interim government has accepted the demands of the protesting Jagannath University students, said University Grants Commission Chairman Prof SMA Faiz. "The government has taken a very positive decision regarding the demands of Jagannath University students and this cooperation will continue," he told the protest rally on Friday (May 16) evening at the Kakrail intersection in the capital, local media reported.
Professor Faiz said, "A decision has been made to increase the university's operational budget. Through the budget increase, a decision has been taken regarding the first demand of the students."
"At the same time, a decision has been made to start the construction of temporary dormitories very soon to resolve the accommodation crisis", he said, adding, "The process of implementing the second campus on a priority basis has already begun."
The move came hours after students of JnU began a mass hunger strike from 3:30 p.m. to press home their demands.
