The government has strengthened security arrangements across the country ahead of the holy Eid-ul-Fitr, the biggest religious festival of the Muslims. “Members of police, Rapid Action Battalion (RAB), Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) and Ansar is set to be deployed at field level to maintain law and order,” said Md Nasimul Gani, Senior Secretary of the Ministry of Home Affairs in Dhaka on Monday (Mar 24), local media reported.
Addressing a media briefing at his ministry, he said the law and order situation has been improved than previous time. “On the eve of the Eid, the security arrangements have been strengthened across the country. Home ministry’s officers were also asked to monitor law and order situation round the clock,” he said.
Meanwhile, Police headquarters issued several instructions to maintain law and order across the country. It said the maximum number of police personnel will be deployed on the occasion. Besides, the Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) has taken all possible security measures to ensure safe and festive celebration of the upcoming Eid-ul-Fitr. In addition, RAB security arrangements have been strengthened across the country. A large number of RAB members will be in the field for Eid security.
Apart from this, members of Bangladesh Ansar and Village Defense Force will be in the field to support the law enforcement agencies.
The DMP has increased police patrols and check posts to prevent theft and robbery, giving special importance to the capital.
Talking to National News Agency of Bangladesh – BSS, Deputy Commissioner of Police (DC) of DMP's Media and Public Relations Division Muhammad Talebur Rahman said that a large number of people will leave the capital for their homes during the Eid holiday. “During this time, police have been instructed to be on the highest alert for overall security, as there is a risk of theft, robbery, snatching, activities of aggyan and malam parties, and extortionists,” he said.
Talebur said, “Our regular security arrangements have been strengthened on the eve of Eid. We have already increased patrol activities.” He said checkposts are being set up at various places in the capital and intelligence surveillance is continuing to check crime.
Auxiliary police have already been appointed to assist police, he said adding that auxiliary police will play an effective role in maintaining law and order.
DMP firmly believed that the steps taken by the police will successful in improving the overall law and order situation and curbing crime, the DC media said.
RAB's legal and media wing informed that intelligence activities and patrols have been strengthened for the safety of people during the Eid. RAB members will be active in plain clothes as well as in uniform to ensure security of the common people across the country, he said.
RAB will monitor intelligence, foot patrol, mobile patrol, and cyber world and mobile team will be in the field.
According to police security instructions, passengers should travel taking sufficient time during Eid. Keep in mind about themselves and their family members’ safety and security while traveling.
Refrain from knocking to drivers for high speed and avoid becoming extra passengers on the roof of a bus or traveling on trucks, pickups, and other goods-carrying vehicles.
Use zebra crossings or foot over bridges when crossing roads. No zebra crossings or foot over bridges, cross the road safely by watching the movement of vehicles.
Seek police assistance if necessary. Do not drive at reckless speeds. Refrain from accepting food or drinks from strangers.
Bus owners have been requested not to allow incompetent, amateur, tired or sick drivers to drive passenger buses and cars.
It said that unfit vehicles should not be taken out on the road and that drivers should be instructed to drive according to the rules and not engage in risky overtaking.
At the same time, passengers of launches, steamers and speedboats have been requested not to risk their lives by becoming additional passengers on the vessel, not to travel on the roof of the vessel, and to refrain from risking their lives by traveling on the vessel in adverse weather conditions.
Train passengers have been requested to refrain from risky travel on the roof, buffers, steps, and engines of train.
