Women Entrepreneurs Association of Bangladesh (WEAB) with the aim of empowering women entrepreneurs is organising the fair marking the International Women Day in honour of the women who played a role in the July Uprising. WEAB President Nasreen Awal Mintu on Monday (Mar 3) disclosed the information at a press conference at the WEAB office in the city, local media reported.
Nasreen Awal Mintu said WEAB is going to celebrate its silver jubilee through this fair. "Over the past 25 years, the organization has provided training, mentoring and financial support for thousands of women entrepreneurs in the country. By organizing this fair, the success and potential of women entrepreneurs will be highlighted in the country and the world. If this event is successfully completed, new horizons will be opened for women entrepreneurs," she added.
The WEAB President said the special attraction of this year's fair is the July Corner which has been created in honour of the women who played a role in the July Uprising. This corner, she said, will highlight the bravery and contribution of those women.
Besides, Nasreen said, to ensure participation of women and children in the fair, a drawing competition will be organized with three hundred students from different schools of the capital.
She said that this fair will play an important role in achieving financial independence and establishing themselves as entrepreneurs of women. This is not only for economic empowerment of women but will also accelerate women's contribution to society, the WEAB president said.
Handicrafts, traditional clothes, designed fabrics, aesthetic jewelry and various creative products made by women entrepreneurs will be displayed in the fair.
The fair will remain open for the public from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. every day.
