The Bangladesh Women’s cricket team beat the West Indies by 60 runs in the 2nd ODI in Basseterre, reviving hopes of a spot in the World Cup after a thumping in their first encounter. The win means the Tigresses is only a single win away from qualifying for the World Cup.
Bangladesh had managed 198-9 in the 1st ODI in St Kitts on Sunday (Jan 20) but were overpowered by nine wickets as the hosts put on an impressive display with the bat.
They were sent in to bat first in the 2nd ODI on Tuesday (Jan 21) as well but managed to post only 184 thanks to a slow but steady captain’s knock from Nigar Sultana (68 off 120 balls). Sobhana Mostary (23) and Shorna Akter (21) pitched in too.
Spinner Karishma Ramharack (4-33) and medium pacer Aaliyah Alleyne (3-24) did the most damage for the West Indies.
Despite the odds, Bangladesh’s bowlers delivered, tearing through the West Indies innings and bowling them out for only 124 in 34 overs.
Spinners Nahida Akter (3-31), Rabeya Khan (2-19), and Fahima Khatun (2-17) led the line, while pacer Marufa Akter (2-35) snapped up a couple of wickets.
Now the Tigresses’ dreams of a World Cup run rest on the 3rd ODI against the West Indies on Friday.
