Rajshahi name Taskin as new captain

Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) T20 franchise Durbar Rajshahi have announced experienced pacer Taskin Ahmed as the new skipper for their remaining matches of the BPL after relieving regular skipper Anamul Haque Bijoy from the role to 'give him some space to concentrate only on his batting'. Anamul is the leading run-getter in the tournament with 324 runs in eight matches, including a sensational unbeaten 100 off 57 balls against Khulna in his side's last game against Khulna Tigers in Chattogram on Sunday (Jan 19).

"During the post-match presentation after the match, Anamul was seen emotionally broken down after failing to take his side over the line in a nail-biting affair. Hence the management felt that he should only concentrate on his batting without any captaincy pressure which we think will help him remain mentally recharged and focus more on the team's qualifying bid for the playoffs," a statement from the franchise said on Monday (Jan 20).

Taskin, too, is enjoying a great time in the tournament having claimed 18 wickets in eight games – most by any bowler.

"We sincerely hope that Taskin will be able to lift the side both on and off the field in order to achieve our goal in the tournament," the franchise added.

Durbar Rajshahi has been battling with issues both on and off the field ever since they got the franchise, the latest of which is the captaincy change.

Rajshahi are currently in fifth position on the seven-team table with six points from eight matches.
