Jagannath University hosts three-day Iranian film fest

Jagannath University is set to host an Iranian film festival from Nov 3-5 at the university's central auditorium, featuring screenings of some of Iran's most critically acclaimed films. The event is organised by the university's Film and Television Department in collaboration with the Film Club and supported by the Iranian Cultural Centre in Dhaka.

The festival will open with "Bodyguard", a political thriller directed by Ebrahim Hatamikia. Starring Parviz Parastoui, the film follows the story of a morally conflicted bodyguard assigned to protect high-ranking political figures. Renowned for its gripping narrative and thought-provoking social commentary, "Bodyguard" sets the tone for the festival's offerings.

In the following days, audiences will experience the works of celebrated Iranian filmmaker Majid Majidi, including "The Children of Heaven", "The Song of Sparrows", and "The Colour of Paradise". These internationally acclaimed films are known for their emotional depth and Majidi's ability to portray profound human experiences through compelling storytelling.

The lineup also includes Abbas Kiarostami's "Taste of Cherry", a philosophical exploration of life and death, and Saifullah Daad's "The Survivor", a poignant story centred on Palestinian resistance.

The festival will officially commence with an opening ceremony on Tuesday at 11 a.m.. Professor Mohammad Rezaul Karim, Vice-Chancellor of Jagannath University, will attend as the chief guest. Iranian Ambassador Mansour Chavoshi and Seyed Reza Mirmohammadi will be present as special guests.

This cultural initiative aims to strengthen ties between Bangladesh and Iran while enriching the local film landscape by introducing audiences to the artistry of Iranian cinema.
