The Dhaka University authorities on Sunday (Dec 1) brought out a colorful procession on the university campus marking the beginning of the month of victory. Vice-Chancellor of the university Dr. Niaz Ahmad Khan inaugurated the programme by releasing pigeons and balloons at the foot of Aparajeo Bangla on the campus, local media reported.
Led by the VC, teachers, students and officials of the university joined the procession that started from the Aparajeo Bangla and ended at the Smriti Chironton Square after parading TSC area. Pro-Vice Chancellor (Administration) Prof Sayema Haque Bidisha, senate and syndicate members, deans, hall provosts, directors, department heads, teachers, students, alumni and staff of the university also joined the procession, among others.
Prior to the procession, Prof Niaz Ahmed Khan paid tributes to the martyrs of the Liberation War and also highlighted the significance of the recent July Uprising. Recalling the victims of the July movement, he said, the people of Bangladesh, especially the students contributed greatly to the formation of a new Bangladesh. He called upon the teachers, students, officers and employees of the university to remain united and work towards the country's progress.
Later, a cultural event was arranged featuring patriotic songs by the university’s music department on the campus.
