Khaleda returned to jail

Khaleda returned to jail

Bangladesh Nationalist Party Chairperson Begum Khaleda Zia returned to Dhaka central jail in Nazimuddin Road from Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University (BSMMU) on Saturday (Apr 7) after medical check-up and tests. Khaleda left BSMMU in the noon amid tight security, local media reports said.

Earlier, in the morning, she was taken to the BSMMU from the jail for medical check-up. Two members of a medical board earlier formed by the government and her personal physician examined her health. Later, the doctors suggested conducting some medical tests.

Khaleda Zia fell sick in the jail on Mar 29 and postponed a scheduled meeting with its secretary general Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir.

On Apr 1, the government formed a medical team with four professors of Dhaka Medical College Hospital to examine her health condition and ensure her treatment in the jail.

On Feb 8 last, a special court in Dhaka sentenced Khaleda to five years' rigorous imprisonment in the Zia Orphanage Trust graft case.
