Tarique for quick polls to avert conspiracy

Tarique for quick polls to avert conspiracy

Bangladesh Nationalist Party – BNP’s Acting Chairman Tarique Rahman has said the people’s mandate through election could make the ongoing reforms sustainable. “The more the election would be delayed, the more conspiracy would be orchestrated,” he said while addressing the council of Chuadanga district BNP virtually from London. BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir inaugurated the council held at Chuadanga town football ground. The party’s Vice-Chairmen Shamsuzzaman Dudu and Nitai Roy Chowdhury, Khulna divisional organizing secretary Aditya Islam Amit and Jayanta Kumar Kundu were present as special guests. Chuadanga district BNP convener Mahmud Hasan Khan Babu was in the chair while member secretary Sharifuzzaman Sharif conducted the council, local media reported.

Tarique Rahman said, a free and fair election can make the country’s politics stable. People’s mandate is must to make the ongoing reforms sustainable, he added. Tarique Rahman mentioned that the nation is now talking about reforms, but the BNP had floated 31-point reform proposals two years back. “Reform is a continuous process which should be initiated by someone and carried forward by others,” he said. Many people and organizations alongside the interim government are now talking about the reforms. But, the reforms should be in accordance with the people’s expectation and mandate,” he noted.

Tarique Rahman urged the party workers to get prepared to meet the people’s expectations as party now has a lot of responsibilities. Noting that the dictator has been toppled in people's uprising, he said the dictator is not sitting idle, rather hatching conspiracies with its local and foreign masters.

Hoping that the current interim government would be able to hold a fair election, Tarique Rahman said a fair poll would help electing real people who think for public welfare. The BNP acting Chairman said democracy would be established in the country in true sense when real people would be elected. “Pro-people representatives at the helm of the government are needed to change the people’s fate. That is why, a quick election is needed, he said adding that “We must clearly convey the message to the interim government as well as the people of Bangladesh.”

Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir said the killings were carried out during the Awami League regime jointly by police, Jubo League and Chhatra League cadres. But in no way it’s acceptable in a democratic country, he said.

Awami League did nothing but terrorism and corruption, he said adding that BNP never compromised with any evil force in the question of upholding democracy.

On the outset of the council prayers were offered seeking salvation of the departed souls of the martyrs of July movement.

The council of Chuadanga district BNP is being held after 14 years in the backdrop of a festive mood among the leaders and activists following the fall of the fascist Awami League government.
