Nazrul’s work set platform to forge closer BD-India tie: Pranay Verma

Indian high commissioner to Bangladesh Pranay Verma on Tuesday (Nov 12) said national poet Kazi Nazrul Islam’s works are a shared cultural heritage of India and Bangladesh that set a base to uphold closer people-to-people tie between the two neighbouring countries. “Kobi Nazrul’s works … give us a unique platform to forge closer people-to-people and cultural connection between the two countries,” he said.

The envoy was speaking at a musical evening of Shyama Sangeet by Kazi Nazrul Islam, organized by the Indian High Commission’s Indira Gandhi Cultural Center (IGCC) at the Indian Cultural Center in Dhaka, said a press release of the Indian high commission.

Renowned artists Tito Munshi, Mridula Samadder and Bijon Chandra Mistry performed selected works of Nazrul's Shyama Sangeet in the event.

Prominent persons from the field of art and culture in Bangladesh joined the programme.

The national poet of Bangladesh, Kazi Nazrul Islam, is equally popular in India and Bangladesh, said the high commissioner.

Nazrul composed more than hundred devotional songs on Goddess Maa Kali, which is called Shyama Sangeet.
