Kylian Mbappe struck for the fourth consecutive game as Real Madrid survived a late scare to beat Deportivo Alaves 3-2 in LaLiga on Tuesday (Sep 24). Real Madrid, second, cut the gap on FC Barcelona to one point before the leaders host Getafe on Wednesday. Madrid dismantled Alaves with goals from Lucas Vazquez, Mbappe and Rodrygo before a late salvo from the visitors rocked Carlo Ancelotti's side. Carlos Protesoni and Kike Garcia scored two goals in two minutes in the final stages but Madrid held on.
Kylian Mbappe scored in his fifth consecutive match to continue his fine start to life in a Real Madrid shirt, as his side survived a late comeback to beat Deportivo Alaves.
Lucas Vazquez gave the LaLiga champions the lead inside 57 seconds before Frenchman Mbappe found the net with a fine finish after being set up by Jude Bellingham. Rodrygo added a third just after the restart, but Carlos Benavidez pulled a goal back for the visitors in the 85th minute. Deportivo's Kike Garcia then added a second a minute later to ensure a nervy finish, but Carlo Ancelotti's side were able to hang on.
Mbappe's strike means the 25-year-old now has seven goals in nine appearances this season for Madrid, including six in his past seven. He and Bellingham had also combined in the 23rd minute but the forward had his strike into the bottom corner ruled out for offside.
Mbappe signed a five-year deal at Real Madrid in July after the expiry of his Paris Saint-Germain contract.
Madrid are second in the LaLiga standings on 17 points, one behind leaders Barcelona, who have a game in hand and host second from bottom Getafe on Wednesday.
