Journalists Mozammel Haque Babu and Shyamal Dutta, along with two others, were detained by locals while allegedly attempting to cross into India illegally through the Dhobaura border in Mymensingh on Monday (Sep 16). The locals later turned them over to the police, Dhobaura police station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Md Chan Mia told media. Babu is the Chief Editor of Ekattor TV and Shyamal is the Editor of Bhorer Kagoj.
The OC said that around 6 a.m., locals apprehended four individuals, including the journalists, along with a car at the border and turned them over to law enforcement. The other two detained individuals are Ekattor TV Senior Reporter Mahbubur Rahman and the driver of the car, Selim.
OC Chan Mia said they were in police custody and legal action would be taken. The four would be sent to Dhaka, the police officer later said.
