Bangladesh suffer shock defeat to Bhutan

Bangladesh suffered a heart breaking defeat to the hosts Bhutan in the second match of two-match FIFA tier-1 Int'l Friendly Series held at the Changlimithang Stadium in Thimphu on Sunday (Sep 8). With this win, Bhutan leveled the two-match series 1-1.

After a goalless first half, the second also saw lack of excitement as both the teams were found reluctant to play attacking football. At one stage it was seemed the game was heading for a tame draw, but a late goal by Bhutanese substitute forward Kinga Wangchuk shattered all hope of Bangladesh.

After receiving a lofted cross from the right wing, onrushing Kinga sent the ball home with a placing shot giving no chance to Bangladesh custodian Mitul under the bar in the dying moment of the match.

After conceding the goal, it was quite impossible for Javier Cabrera's men to stage a fight back in the match in remaining proceeding and eventually Bangladesh and to leave the field with empty hand.

Though the red and green jersey had a good opportunity to win the series if they able to skip the day's defeat against Bhutan.

Bangladesh played disorganized football all through the proceeding and failed to create any real scoring chances.

Earlier, Bangladesh beat Bhutan 1-0 thanks to Sheikh Morsalin.

Bangladesh took to the field with two changes in the second match but could not create any remarkable goal chance in the proceeding.

Bangladesh team’s head coach Javier Cabrera made two changes to the XI for the second match with injured forward Rakib Hossain was replaced by Sahariar Emon while Isa Faisal had been brought in to replace defender Bishwanath Ghosh.

As in the first match, regular skipper Jamal Bhuyan was out of Bangladesh's XI in in the second match. Tapu Barman captained the red-green jersey holders in his place in the first match. Senior Sohel Rana captained the second match.
