The Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) arrested former commerce minister Tipu Munshi in Gulshan, Dhaka, on Wednesday (Aug 28) night in a murder case filed in Rangpur.
RAB Legal and Media Wing Senior Assistant Director Senior ASP ANM Imran Khan said Tipu had been arrested in connection with the killing of goldsmith Muslim Uddin Milon, 38, shot dead during the recent student movement in Rangpur. Dilruba Akter, Milon’s wife, filed the case on Tuesday at a Rangpur court against 17 individuals, including Tipu Munshi.
The senior Bangladesh Awami League leaders, lawmakers and former ministers went into hiding following the fall of Sheikh Hasina-led government in the face of mass revolution on Aug 5. Several of them have been arrested.
Tipu Munshi was in hiding since 5 August too. He is a former MP from the Rangpur-4 constituency. He became the commerce minister during the third consecutive term of Awami League government.
