Juve beat Como 3-0 in Motta's first game

Juve beat Como 3-0 in Motta's first game

New coach Thiago Motta led Juventus to a comfortable 3-0 win over newly-promoted Como in their Serie A opener at a sold-out Allianz Stadium on Monday (Aug 19), sparking turnaround hopes at the Turin-based club. Forward Samuel Mbangula and winger Timothy Weah netted inside the first half, both scoring their first goals for Juve in Serie A, before Andrea Cambiaso added the third from a distance in stoppage time. Rejuvenated Juve start a new chapter under Motta, who led Bologna to the Champions League last season and will now hope to bring the Serie A title back to Turin for the first time in four years.

Juventus eased to a 3-0 victory against Cesc Fabregas' newly-promoted Como in Thiago Motta's first competitive game in charge. Belgian forward Samuel Mbangula and USA winger Timothy Weah both scored in a dominant first-half display, before Andrea Cambiaso added a third in stoppage time.

Motta, who led Bologna to the Champions League with a fourth-placed finish in Serie A last season, joined Juventus following Massimiliano Allegri's departure in May.

The Old Lady are seeking their first Serie A title in four years, while Como are back in the top flight after a 21-year absence.

Fabregas – the former Arsenal, Chelsea and FC Barcelona midfielder – has stepped up into a manager's role this season having been an assistant manager at the club during their promotion last season.

Mbangula, 20, making his debut for Juventus, opened the scoring with a well-hit effort from the edge of the box. The hosts doubled their lead at the end of the first half when Weah converted a cross from Kenan Yildiz for his first goal of the campaign.

Italy international Cambiaso, 24, sealed the victory in stoppage time with a fantastic curled effort into the bottom left-hand corner.

Atalanta beat Lecce 4-0 earlier on Monday, with two goals apiece from Marco Brescianini and Mateo Retegui.

Juventus, who finished third behind Inter and Milan last season to secure their return to the Champions League following a year's absence, next travel to Hellas Verona on Aug 26.

Como visit Cagliari earlier that day.
