PM releases stamp on Independence Day

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina released a commemorative postage stamp, a first-day cover and a data card on Monday (Mar 26) to mark the 48th Independence Day of Bangladesh. The premier also released another commemorative postage stamp, a first-day cover and a data card to celebrate the recognition of the historic March 7 speech of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman by Unesco as part of the world’s documentary heritage.

She released the stamps and the first-day covers of Tk 10 each and the data cards of Tk 5 each at her official Ganabhaban residence in Dhaka in the afternoon, local media reports said.

Other attendees included Posts, Telecommunications and Information Technology Minister Mustafa Jabbar, the ministry’s Secretary Shyam Sundar Sikdar, and Director General of Bangladesh Post Office Sushanta Kumar Mondal.

The stamps, first-day covers and data cards can be bought from the Philatelic Bureau of Dhaka GPO initially, and will be made available at other GPOs and head post offices across the country soon.

There is also an arrangement for special cancellers in four GPOs to be used for the first-day covers.
