Social media platforms, including Facebook and WhatsApp, were unblocked in Bangladesh on Wednesday (Jul 31) afternoon. According to Internet Service Providers Association of Bangladesh (ISPAB), all social media platforms have been unblocked after 2 p.m. It may take 24 to 48 hours to resume full-fledged services, it said.
The social media platforms were unblocked hours after State Minister for Post, Telecommunication, and Information Technology Zunaid Ahmed Palak disclosed the decision of unblocking following a meeting with officials of the social media platforms at the Bangladesh Telecommunication Regulatory Commission (BTRC) Bhaban in Dhaka. TikTok officials physically joined the meeting on Wednesday morning while officials of Meta's platforms took part in the event virtually from Singapore.
After the meeting, Palak said these platforms will resume for facilitating the business of e-commerce and f-commerce sites.
