Members of the Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) have been working tirelessly for restoration of law and order along with ensuring security of the city dwellers. “Fear and panic were spread in the capital after the massive violence centering quota reform movement, situation is being gradually improved,” said a DMP official on Tuesday (Jul 30).
Deputy Commissioner of Media and Public Relations Division of the DMP Md Faruk Hossain said the DMP has been working round the clock efficiently like the previous time. “Since the beginning of the recent quota reform movement, security has been ensured for the students. So far none has raised any questions about the performance of DMP. But a vested quarter has used the students as shields and targeted policemen to break down their morality and create anarchy in the country,” he said.
According to the DMP sources, at least 30 major establishments including the main building of Bangladesh Television, two metro rail stations, Khaja Tower, hub of the city’s internet data cables, Setu Bhaban, BRTA Bhaban along with the vehicles of police and BGB were torched and severely damaged by the protesters during the quota reform movement on Thursday and Friday (Jul 18 and 19).
The miscreants launched arson attacks on other different government and political party offices, police stations-outposts and toll plazas during the two-day violent protests in the capital and other parts of the country.
Three members of the Bangladesh Police were brutality killed by the miscreants and more than 1,000 policemen were injured. Media persons were also given their lives during performing professional duties.
“Bangladesh Police has set a brilliant example of saving lives by standing beside the common people when there was Covid-19 pandemic. Police also achieved tremendous success in combating militancy and terrorism in the country,” Faruk said.
He said that the DMP played role in bringing law and order situation under control in every crisis in the past and it will continue in future. “Fearless policemen never hesitate to engage themselves in restoring normalcy in the city even sacrificing their lives to serve the people. The DMP is fully committed to bring back the law and order with cooperation of the city dwellers,” the DC added.
