BR to resume passenger service from Thursday

The Bangladesh Railway will resume passenger train operations from Thursday (Jul 25) on a limited scale. Mail and local train services will start from Thursday. BR will also operate services on Dhaka-Narayanganj, Dhaka-Tongi routes and commuter trains in railway's eastern and western zones during curfew break, local media reported citing railway ministry secretary Humayun Kabir.

Talking to National News Agency of Bangladesh, he said decision to run intercity trains will be taken after considering the overall situation.

Freight trains have started operation on Wednesday, he said, adding that operation of trains carrying oil tankers was uninterrupted during the suspension of other train services.

Bangladesh Railway suspended operation of all train services on Jul 18 due to the violent protest of anti-quota protesters.
