Dhaka Travel Mart to begin Thursday

The three-day 15th international travel and tourism fair, ‘Dhaka Travel Mart-2018’, will begin at Pan Pacific Sonargaon Hotel in the city on Thursday (Mar 22) in a bid to unlock the country’s tourism potential. Civil Aviation and Tourism Minister AKM Shahjahan Kamal will formally inaugurate the country’s biggest travel and tourism extravaganza at 11 a.m., local media reports said.

Kazi Wahidul Alam, Editor of country’s premier travel and tourism publication The Bangladesh Monitor which is organising the fair, disclosed this at a press conference at the Sonargaon Hotel on Monday (Mar 19). US- Bangla Airlines is the title sponsor of the fair while Bangladesh Tourism Board and national flag carrier Biman Bangladesh Airlines are its partners.

Bangladesh Tourism Board CEO Dr Md Nasir Uddin and Biman General Manager (Marketing and Sales) Atique Rahman Chisty also spoke on the occasion.

A total of 65 organisations, including 48 from different countries like Thailand, Malaysia, Bangkok, India, Sri Lanka, the UAE and Nepal, will showcase their products and services in five pavilions and 60 booths at the 15th edition of the fair. National tourism organisations, airlines, tour operators, hotels, resorts, online booking portals and healthcare service providers will also participate in the fair.

The most significant feature of the present edition of the fair is the participation of five tourism organisations of different countries -- Bangladesh Tourism Board, Bangladesh Parjatan Corporation, Nepal Tourism Board, Tourism Authority of Thailand and Sri Lanka Tourism Promotion Bureau. All Bangladeshi airlines -- Biman Bangladesh Airlines, Novoair, Regent Airways and US-Bangla Airlines are taking part in the event.

As part of the fair, a seminar on ‘Prospects of riverine tourism in Bangladesh’ will be held on Saturday.

Visitors will be able to visit the fair from 10 am to 7:30 pm every day from Thursday to Saturday paying an entry fee of Tk 30.

Raffle draws on the entry coupons will be held on the concluding day at the fair venue. Prizes include airline tickets to various destinations at home and abroad, exciting tour packages, star hotel accommodation and lunch/dinner coupons.
