Govt declares May 8 as holiday for elections in 141 upazilas

The government has declared May 8 as general holiday for elections in 141 upazilas to allow the voters to cast their votes without any hassle. In response to a letter of the Election Commission, the Public Administration Ministry issued a notification in this regard on Monday (May 6), local media reported.

A total of 141 upazilas around the country will go to the polls in the first phase on May 8.

The upazila elections will take place in four phases. Elections in the second phase will be held on May 23, in the third phase on May 29, and in the fourth phase on Jun 5.

There are 492 upazilas in the country.
