Denis Zakaria scored twice as AS Monaco overcame a poor run of form by beating 10-man Nice 3-2 to move into third place in the French league on Sunday (Feb 11). Aleksandr Golovin scored the winning goal for a Monaco side that was under pressure after it got knocked out by third-tier Rouen in the last 16 of the French Cup on Thursday and failed to win any of its three previous league games.
AS Monaco beat 10-man Nice 3-2 away on Sunday (Feb 11), with a brace from Denis Zakaria, to move into third place in the Ligue 1 standings on 38 points.
Nice are second on 39 points, 11 points behind leaders Paris Saint Germain, who beat Lille 3-1 on Saturday, while Monaco climbed above Brest, who drew 1-1 against Clermont Foot on Sunday.
Zakaria put the visitors ahead with a brilliant long-range shot in the 16th minute but Gaetan Laborde levelled for Nice from a penalty after Tom Louchet was fouled by defender Thilo Kehrer.
After the break, Zakaria netted a header from a cross by Japan's Takumi Minamino, who two minutes later was fouled by captain Dante, resulting in a red card.
Despite the loss of Dante, Nice equalised in the 74th minute with a goal from French forward Evann Guessand, but substitute Aleksandr Golovin scored three minutes later to secure the win for Monaco.
