Fazlur Rahman, Chairman and Managing Director of City Group and the country's one of the leading commodity importers and processors, passed away at a hospital in the city in the early hours of Monday (Dec 25). He was 77. Fazlur Rahman, also Chairman of Somoy TV, breathed his last at a city hospital around 4 a.m., local media reported citing family sources. He is survived by his wife, only son and three daughters.
The eminent industrialist built an empire of 40 companies, over the last five decades with businesses ranging from flour, sugar, edible oil, feed and rice milling.
City Group has three economic zones and one hi-tech park. City Group has employed around 25,000 people under the leadership of Rahman.
Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and Commerce Minister Tipu Munshi expressed profound shock and sorrow at the death of Fazlur Rahman. In separate messages of condolence, the PM and the Commerce Minister prayed for the eternal peace of the departed soul and conveyed deep sympathy to the bereaved family.
Besides, FBCCI President Mahbubul Alam condoled the death of Fazlur Rahman.
