HSC exam begins on Aug 17

Education Minister Dr Dipu Moni on Tuesday (Aug 8) said that this year's Higher Secondary Certificate (HSC) and equivalent examinations will begin on Aug 17 according to the prior schedule. "The date of HSC exam will not be changed," she said while briefing media after holding a national monitoring and disciplinary committee meeting at the International Mother Language Institute in Dhaka on Tuesday (Aug 8).

Of the 11 education boards, a total of 13,59,342 examinees from 9,169 educational institutions are appearing in the examinations at 2,658 centers, she said, adding that among them, 6,88,887 are male while 6,70,455 female students.

She said that this year the number of HSC candidates in nine general education boards of the country is 11,08,594. Among them, 5,26,251 are male while 5,82,343 female students, she said, adding that a total of 1,535 exam centers will be set up for 4,647 educational institutions to this end.

This year, a total of 98,031 candidates under the madrasah education board are sitting for the examinations from 2,688 educational institutions at 449 centers, she said. Of them, as many as 53,063 are male students while 44,968 female students.

About 1,52,717 candidates (1,09,573 male and 43,144 female students) from 1,834 educational institutions are participating in examinations at 674 centers under the technical education board, she added.

The total number of examinees this year increased by 1,55,935 compared to that of last year, the minister said.

Due to the heavy rainfall situation in some districts of the country, she also said that all educational institutions in Bandarban, Khagrachari, Cox's Bazar and Chattogram districts will remain closed on Aug 9 and 10.

Meanwhile, to prevent rumors, the government has ordered the closure of all coaching centers from Aug 14 to Sep 25 in order to hold examinations in a fair manner.
