Bangladesh to celebrate Eid-ul-Fitr on Saturday

Eid-ul-Fitr, the largest religious festival of the Muslims, will be celebrated in Bangladesh on Saturday (Apr 22) as Shawal moon was sighted on Friday evening. The National Moon Sighting Committee announced this at the Islamic Foundation's Baitul Mukarram National Mosque office after Maghrib prayers, local media reported.

Meanwhile, all preparations for holding Eid congregations have already been completed in the capital and elsewhere in the country.

A large number of people have left Dhaka for their homes outside the capital to celebrate Eid with their near and dear ones.

Bangladesh Television, Bangladesh Betar and all television channels will air special programmes and many newspapers will publish supplements on the occasion. Special food will be served in hospitals, jails and orphanages.

Islamic Foundation said there will be five jamaats at the Baitul Mukarram National Mosque on the day of Eid-ul-Fitr. The first jamaat will be held at 7:00 a.m. while the next four Jamaats will be held at 8:00 a.m., 9:00 a.m., 10:00 am and 10:45 a.m.

Eid-ul-Fitr Jamaats will also be held at mosques and Eidgahs all over the country.

The largest Eid-ul-Fitr Jamaat (congregation) of the country will be held on the historic Sholakia Eidgah Maidan with participation of over thousands of devotees from home and abroad amid security measures.

President Md. Abdul Hamid will offer the prayers of Eid-ul-Fitr along with hundreds of people from all walks of life at the National Eidgah Maidan.

Apart from the head of the state, the country's noted personalities, including chief justice, cabinet members, judges of the Supreme Court, lawmakers, senior political leaders and high civil and military officials will also say their prayers there.

After the prayers, President Hamid will exchange Eid greetings with the Musullies (devotees) at the Eidgah on the day.

The Eid Jamaat will be held under the auspices of Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC). Special arrangement has been made for women to offer Eid prayers at the national Eidgah.

An intensified security measures were taken in and around the prayers ground.

On his arrival at the Eidgah, the President will be received by Chief Justice Hasan Foez Siddique, DSCC Mayor Barrister Fazle Noor Taposh and other concerned.

On the Eid day morning, usually, Muslim devotees gather at mosques and prayer venues to perform Eid prayers and greet each other.

The festival is celebrated by visiting friends and relatives, hosting food parties and sharing sweets.

Children not only get new clothes and shoes, but also receive cash gifts called "Salami" from their elders, relatives and well-wishers.

Meanwhile, the holy Jumatul Wida, the last Friday of the holy month of Ramadan, was observed across the country today with due solemnity and religious fervour. 

The biggest Jumatul Wida congregation was held at the Baitul Mukarram National Mosque.
